In a ceremony held in Thiruvananthapuram, the first batch of 45 Tata Nexon EVs were delivered to Kerala Motor Vehicle Department. The Nexon EV is the FASTEST car that Tata has launched in India, with a 0-100 Kph timing of under 10 seconds. This also makes the Nexon Electric SUV a great choice for law enforcement agencies, who can quickly catch up with fleeing violators.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Shailesh Chandra, President – Passenger Vehicle Business Unit, Tata Motors, said,
The Kerala Govt. has been at the forefront of initiating several measures to enhance public safety. We are grateful to ANERT for driving this initiative on behalf of the Kerala Government and look forward to a fruitful partnership with them and MVD. We are indeed proud that the Nexon EV is their preferred choice for the ‘Safe Kerala’ special project on road safety. The Nexon EV has emerged as India’s best-selling electric car, commanding a 63% market share in the personal EV segment and through these orders we are hopeful that we will continue to lead the market.
Tata Motors is one of the most popular India car manufacturer. They recently handed over a fleet of Nexon EVs to Kerala MVD. Government of Kerala has selected India’s own electric SUV Tata Nexon EV for its Motor Vehicle Department (MVD), as part of its ambitious ‘Safe Kerala’ Programme. Safe Kerala’ is a programme that focuses on significantly enhancing road safety by reducing traffic offences and addressing all related aspects holistically through mediums such as proper training of drivers, providing safe roads, raising awareness amongst pedestrians, and ensuring effective management of vehicular traffic.
A total number of 65 Tata Nexon EVs will be delivered to Kerala MVD. Kerala MVD will lease these Nexon EVs for a period of 8 years from Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL) through the Agency for New and Renewable Energy Research and Technology (ANERT). These vehicles have been specially customised with Kerala MVD sticker on the bonnet and side. Beacon lights are also installed on the roof.
All the Nexon EVs get a green registration plate which indicate that it is an EV. In terms of design, Nexon EV is the same as regular Nexon. Electric Blue inserts around the fog lamp, window line and the boot. It is available in XM, XZ+ and XZ+ Lux trims. The Nexon EV powered by Ziptron technology uses a 30.2 KwH high capacity lithium ion battery. This generates 129 Ps and 245 Nm of torque. Tata Nexon has an ARAI certified driving range of 312 kms on full charge.
